Five - one of my favorite ages!

OK, I confess. Sometimes I do play favorites. I LOVE to photograph children who are five! I love all ages of children....there's something special about each age. BUT five is magic. It's the age where they start to really look like the people they'll become. But they still have a little chub to their fingers, and a tad baby left in their faces. But no big girl (or boy) teeth, and I can usually coax a real smile out of them. This is Miss N, who is, you guessed it, five!

Oh yeah, and don't be shocked by two posts in one night! I'm a little behind on blogging ;)

A Day at Grandmother's

Five years ago, a very cool grandmother arranged a session to mark her grandson's 3rd birthday. We did the session around the beautiful pond in Grandmother's back yard. Last weekend we got to do the same for his little sister Miss K's 3rd birthday! Can't wait to show them the rest!

This beautiful baby girl is the first grandchild of one of my best friends from high school. We did a generations session with the baby, mom, grandma, and great grandma. I have images of all of their beautiful faces, and those are great, but there is something about this one that touches my heart!

I've known the Rogers family since their oldest, Jordan, and my daughter Lauren were in preschool at New Haven! We've been together at East Elementary too, all the way through high school now. They've been blessed with four amazing (and might I add photogenic!) children. I was honored to get to photograph them at the beginning of what will be probably their biggest challenge....mom Lisa's fight against breast cancer. I'll be blogging more later (plan to see a bit of pink!) We decided to do a session before any of the hair issues of chemo start. Please keep them in your prayers!

Award Winning Photography!

Found out this summer that I did well in the PPA's International Print Competition. All four of the prints I submitted for judging received merits! In the real world, I know that no one knows anything about that, but in the world of portrait photographers it is a pretty big deal :)

Actually got a "4 for 4" award which makes me a "Photographer of the Year". Notice I said "a" not "the"! But hey, I'll take it! One of the prints was accepted into the PPA Loan Collection, a really great honor!

Tonight I got to photograph someone I've wanted to make a portrait of for a long time. Dr. Gilbert Cuthbertson, known to all Rice University students as Doc C, is at our home and I insisted that he let me do a session with him. He was a professor of Brad's and has continued to be a dear friend for us. We lived behind a house he owns in Houston in the garage apartment when we first married. Our friends called it the "honeymoon cottage". I have to say, I love this portrait!

Oh I had some fun today.....got to do a session for some newborn twin boys! Mom and Dad were awesome, and much more relaxed than so many first-time parents. Great to have Grandma there to help too. And baby boys G and H.....well, see for yourself! Yummy :)

I'll be musing about this and that, some photography, some recipes (you know I love to cook!) and who knows what else! Since I'm a Facebook fan, I'm testing to see if what I post in my blog might actually show up in Facebook. Well, did it?!?

All the other photographer kids are doing it, so looks like it is time for me to blog! In trying to figure out why I'd blog instead of just doing Facebook, the main thing I can figure out is that I, and any people that might follow the blog, will be able to easily find pictures, recipes, and even the occasional word of wisdom more easily in the future. Plus having a blog is supposed to bump up my rankings with the search engines :)

Let's see if I can a) find anything remotely interesting to say on my blog and b) keep up with posting regularly!
